What is Forskolin?
Forskolin is found in the roots of the plant Plectranthusbarbatus (Coleus forskohlii). Forskolin has been traditionally used for heart conditions such as high blood pressure and chest pain (angina). Forskolin's suggested mode of action is Forskolin working on heart muscle and blood vessel to produce a more powerful heartbeat and widen blood vessel. Many research studies have been conducted on the benefit of Forskolin. Previously, studies concentrated on linking Forskolin to cardiovascular health.
Presently, more emphasis is put on lipolytic mechanism of Forskolin- metabolism support and breakdown of fat. Notably, one clinical research study conducted at University of Kansas showed positive change in body composition of obese men, but more studies are needed.
Most products with Forskohlii contains only 1-10% of Forskolin, and Herbal slim Forskolin contatins Coleus forskohlii extracts which contain the highest levels of Forskolin (20%) in the market. It makes the daily dose convenient as one capsule per day.
Is Forskolin safe?
Forskolin is safe for most adults when used appropriately. However, there can be some side effects. There is some concern that Forskolin might interfere with treatment for diseases of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease). Forskolin may significantly lower blood pressure. Use Forskolin with caution if you have a heart, blood pressure problem.
Forskolin may increase bleeding. Therefore if you have blood disorders, consult with a healthcare practitioner before use. Also if you are before/after major medical procedure (surgery), stop using Forskolin at least 2 weeks before a scheduled surgery.
It is not known about the use of Forskolin during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use. There is some evidence that Forskolin might increase the likelihood of bleeding.
