Description
PRODUCT RESEARCH / SAFETY
What is Boswellia?
- Boswellia serrata grows in dry mountainous regions of India, Northern Africa, and
Middle East. - Boswellia, also known as Indian frankincense, is a gum-resin extracted from the
Boswellia tree (Boswellia serrata) and has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic and
traditional medicine for its potential health benefits to treat various chronic
inflammatory diseases. - The oleo gum resins consist of 30-60% resin, 5-10% essential oils, and the rest is
made up of polysaccharides.
Active components
- The key functional components of Boswellia are boswellic acids, and these bioactive
compounds are responsible for the potential health benefits of Boswellia including anti-
inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and anti-rheumatic properties - Among the four boswellic acids, acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) is the most
potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, enzyme responsible for inflammation.
Key Health benefits
1. Anti-inflammatory effects
Boswellic acids have shown significant anti-inflammatory effects in the treatment of
inflammatory diseases by inhibiting certain enzymes such as 5-lipoxygenase, involved
in the inflammatory process. Clinical studies found that Boswellia serrata extract has
anti-arthritis properties and improves symptoms of inflammatory conditions and physical
function.
2. Joint health and mobility
Boswellia are used to support joint health and relieve joint pain and stiffness. A clinical
trial revealed that boswellia can improve physical and knee-joint functions in individuals
with osteoarthritis and other forms of arthritis.
3. Safe and Natural
Gum resin of boswellia is approved by FDA as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As
Safe) substance and is of botanical origin, Boswellia serrata. Nutridom Boswellia is free
from artificial additives or chemicals, gluten, and lactose.
